Can A Far Infrared Sauna Really Improve Your Health?

Many people have not discovered or experienced the real benefits of a sauna, let alone an infrared one. Most people have only experienced them in a decent hotel after a good swim but the majority of those saunas use steam.

The downside to steam is that it just heats the air around you, but infrared light actually penetrates your body evenly to heat up the cells beneath your skin. We receive infrared from the sun but only from direct sunlight, which these days are limited.

As you will know the negative effects of the sun’s rays is the UV (Ultraviolet) heat. Obviously, an Infrared Sauna does not expose you to these harmful rays.

We know now why we need an infrared sauna over a steam one, so let’s take a look at the benefits your body will feel from the inside-out when exposed to healthy infrared heat.

Sweating The Toxins Out

There are multiple ways that you can detox your body like eating right, exercising better, drinking filtered water, sleeping more, fasting for a few days, or drinking ‘X’ juice. Some are more effective than others but one thing that works the best is sweating it out.

Infrared saunas are the most efficient way to get those nasty toxins out of your body through your sweat.

For a long time, we have known that sweating will get rid of substances that are detrimental to our health, but not all sweat is the same. The common belief is that the sweat from the use of saunas is made up of 95% to 97% of water and the rest is salt. However, these results are only from traditional saunas that only heat the air around you.

Far Infrared Saunas: The Feel Good Cleanse

It has been shown that by using a far infrared sauna (more on “near” and “far” infrared below) your sweat will be composed of only 80% to 85% water! The rest of it is a collection of sodium, ammonia, sulfuric acid, cholesterol, toxic heavy metals, uric acid, and fat-soluble toxins.

Due to the fact that Infrared sauna technology actually goes through your body to the cellular level and raises the temperature 2 to 3 degrees. The frequency vibrates each cell evenly to give you the most efficient detox sweat possible.

It is important to our health to keep these toxins out because they will lead to common illnesses. Due to the health costs these days, women relaxing in saunaanything we can do to prevent future ailments and stay away from the doctor is favorable.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) stated that more than 80% of illnesses are caused by toxins we find in our environments or lifestyles.

One of the more dangerous toxins we come into contact with on a daily basis are the heavy metals.

A review published in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health had found that sweating can excrete trace amounts of metals from your body like arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury!

How do theses toxic metals get in your body?

Metals like arsenic and cadmium get in our systems through ingestion of plants and the animals that eat those plants. Arsenic can be found in some pesticides and the biggest source of cadmium comes from fertilizers we use in the soil.

Lead can get into the drinking water from corroded plumbing and soil next to roads from when gasoline had lead in it.

The highest source of mercury comes from eating fish due to the industrial process.

Sweating is definitely something you want to do, safely and efficiently. The traditional steam sauna will only make you hot on the outside. Even though exercise is a great way to sweat, your body will be too tired and achy before you can sweat effectively.

With a Far Infrared Sauna, you can have all the health benefits of a full detox without the exhaustion and pain from exercise.

Look Younger With Radiant Glowing Skin

It is not necessary for me to tell you that healthy cells will last longer and the slower our cells degrade then the less we seem to age. It’s not the fountain of youth but the effects are amazingly similar.

As we’ve mentioned above, HGH has other function than muscle growth. It keeps your tissue young and vibrant, but once you hit the age of 30, (give or take a few years) you may experience what’s known as “somatopause.” This is the stage in your life that your levels of HGH drop dramatically.

Once your HGH levels drop then your cells will start to degrade faster and the aging process begins. Not to worry, you still have a long time, but if you can keep this hormone producing as long as it can it will help make life longer, healthier and you’ll feel more energized.

How do you know you are aging slower?

The results are in the skin. The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy published a study on participants who used “near” infrared technology (more on “near” and “far” infrared below.) They experienced a reduction in crow’s feet and other wrinkles. It also improved smoothness, softness, clarity, elasticity, and firmness.

The consistent use of a Far Infrared Sauna for detoxing your body should be part of your daily health plan.

Weight Loss And Weight Gain?

Obviously, if you are sweating you are losing water weight but one study from the American Medical Association suggests that healthy infrared sessions will burn up to 600 calories after only 30 minutes of time!

infrared sauna for weight loseSaunas also increase your heart rate just like exercise. Another side effect, besides great circulation, is an increased metabolic rate which is a fancy term for burning more calories than you eat. Burning more calories means losing more weight which leads to a thinner body. Some saunas have been shown to lower waist circumference in just 3 months.

Counter to that, saunas help you build lean muscle for that toned look. Just like exercise, it promotes the production of more proteins that will boost your growth hormone output. Building muscle increases your weight and is good for your health. As you know muscle is healthy weight gain and fat is not.

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is essential for building muscle and is produced by the pituitary gland. Its primary responsibility is helping us grow from children to adults but once we reach our 20’s it starts to decrease.

Anything you can do to keep this hormone producing at a high level that isn’t synthetic is something that is worth looking into. Not only will this help you lose weight and build muscle but it also maintains the health of all human tissue such as the brain and other vital organs.

Strengthen Your Heart

The heart is one of the most important muscles if not THE most important. So anything that can improve this little engine is a must.

In a cardiovascular workout, the oxygen in your muscles are depleted and your heart compensates by pumping more blood to restore that oxygen. By using an infrared sauna you are mimicking this process by heating up your muscles. This benefits your health in many ways as explained through out this article.

Normally, your heart will pump 5 to 7 quarts per minute and after a good sauna session it will increase up to as much as 13 quarts! To put that in perspective, usually, after a high intensity aerobic workout your heart will pump as much as 20 quarts.

Not everyone can do a hard cardio workout but we can all sit in a room for 20 minutes. As an added improvement to your circulation, using these healthy saunas correctly will also reduce the inner lining of the blood vessels and dilate them providing an easy transportation system for all that beneficial blood flow.

Relax The Stress Away

Stress is a big concern for everyone. It is estimated that stress-related problems account for 75 to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians.

This is an easy sell if you are interested in your health and vitality. What is not relaxing about sitting down for 20 to 30 minutes in a room that resembles heat you get from the sun, without all the harmful effect from ultraviolet light (UV).

sauna for excellent healthIt’s a little more in depth than that. When we stress out our body goes to work to help by releasing certain hormones. One of them, known as the stress (or fight or flight) hormone, is called Cortisol.

Cortisol is produced by the adrenal gland and although it has other functions like obtaining proper glucose metabolism, blood pressure regulation, maintaining blood sugar, and improved inflammatory response its levels are the highest during the body’s stress response. While it is a beneficial hormone, it can be damaging at high levels over time.

Studies have shown that immediately after a sauna session Cortisol levels drop significantly. So when you feel a little anxious about something going on in your life, maybe it’s an exam, an important job interview or a stressful event coming up, then a session in an infrared sauna will help wash away those unwanted feelings.

Improve Your Brain Function

“I can just sit around in an infrared sauna and get smarter?” Not exactly, but acclimating your body to heat will increase the levels of norepinephrine and prolactin.

Norepinephrine is the hormone that helps you focus and retain information. While prolactin is used to promote the growth of myelin. Great, now you have more myelin, what does that mean!?

Myelin is basically electrical insulation that allows for the transmission of neurons. The process of myelination occurs the most as infants when we start to walk and talk. We start making more connections in our brain.

So the more myelin you have the faster you can process information which increases your ability to perform higher brain functions. Therefore a good infrared sauna session can help brain stimulation.

Are There Any Downsides?

The only so-called “adverse” thing that we could find is that infrared saunas do put out some electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) which means more radiation, but this is minor. It occurs wherever electric current flows. It is important to remember that radiation is all around us and is harmless in small amounts.

Did you know that the average microwave or personal computer puts out more EMF than most infrared saunas?

The higher quality infrared saunas have been shown to put out EMF’s of up to .06 mG.

According to Consumer Reports, a personal computer can vary from 2mG – 20mG, hair dryers from 10mG – 70mG, and a microwave can emit between 40mG – 50mG!

While the EMF are negligible, the less you are exposed the better so we suggest that you find one that emits the lowest output possible.

What Is The Difference Between Near and Far Infrared?

These terms only refer to the frequency level on the light spectrum. Near infrared is a lower frequency which is around 30% of the sun’s output. Far near and far infrared sauna for healthinfrared is the higher part of the spectrum which accounts for around 3% of the sun’s output.

The near infrared frequencies can help with your immune functions, anti-aging process, and the oxygenation of tissues.

The mid-range frequencies provides the same effects as the near frequencies but also includes improved circulation, weight loss, and pain relief.

The far side of the spectrum does all of that, plus lowers your blood pressure, relaxes you, and will give you a great detox.

In short, the higher you go on the spectrum the more powerful it is on your body. Far Infrared Saunas produce all the health benefits for vitality and well-being that many people are experiencing around the world.

Some Safety Tips

If you are a beginner then start slow. 10 to 15 minutes at 100 degrees Fahrenheit every other day and increase your usage in small increments. Just like you would if you were starting out jogging.

Gradually increase the amount of time to around 40 minutes daily or every other day at the optimal temperature range. The normal temperature to work up to is 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Of course, drink about 24 oz. of water or electrolytes after each session to rehydrate.

Too much of anything could be bad, even drinking water, so if you start feeling off during or after a sauna session then we suggest that you stop and see a physician. Keep in mind some people can feel a little discomfort, this is part of the detoxification process your body needs to go through. It does not last long and is a good sign that toxins are being eliminated.

Certainly there are a million and one ways in which you can improve your health like diet and exercise. However, if you are looking to improve your health, cleanse your system, lose weight and feel more vibrant, look at investing in an infrared sauna, especially on the “Far” end of the spectrum.

“Sweating it out” is something people have been doing for thousands of years but not like this. Thanks to technology we can do it even better and more efficiently from the inside-out to make you feel happier, healthier and energized!
